Whole Wheat Dutch Babies

This is one of our favorite breakfast dishes.  My DaDa likes to make the recipe for Dutch Babies (aka Dutch Puffin) that his Grandma passed on to him.  We thought it would be fun to share our whole wheat version with you, as it makes a great Christmas Morning tradition....and it's super easy!
Whole Wheat Dutch Babies smothered in syrup and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Ingredients for Whole Wheat Dutch Babies:

1/3 c butter
4 eggs
1 c Joseph's Grainery Soft White Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
1 c milk

Directions:  Put butter in your cast iron skillet and set into a preheated oven (425 degrees).  In your blender mix together the eggs, flour and milk while the butter is melting. Remove the pan from oven and pour in the batter.  Return to the oven until puffy and well browned - 20 to 25 minutes.

Dutch Babies baking in the oven...almost done!
DaDa likes to serve his Dutch Babies with warm maple syrup, lemon wedges and powdered sugar.
Cut the Dutch Baby into wedges to serve.
I think it'll quickly become a family favorite for you too!

  6. This was so easy to make and turned out better than the last time I tried to make a dutch baby. My kids love it, I love that it has no sugar in the pancake and that we can top it with whatever we want! (It is also super easy to convert to gluten free, incidentally. Works great for the gluten-free, sugar-free diet I'm on right now.) I put a little powdered sugar and some lemon to be traditional and let my kids use their favorite jam on it. Super yummy and easy. Definitely going in my favorite recipe book. Thanks little Joeseph!
