Whole Wheat Apple Cinnamon Donuts

Fresh, hot, homemade donuts on a cool, Fall Saturday morning?  It doesn't get much better than these Whole Wheat Apple Cinnamon Donuts that MaMa made for us this past weekend.  If you're looking for a way to get more whole grains into your kids diet...let me tell you, this is definitely the way to do it!  Whole grains and fruit...totally healthy, right?  We just won't mention the sugar.  ;)


Whole Wheat Apple Cinnamon Donuts

A yummy way to have your "apple a day".
Ingredients
  • 1 c Joseph's Grainery Hard Red Whole Wheat Bread Flour
  • 1 c all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 c milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 Tbs unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 apple, grated
  • 2 Tbs unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar (1/2 cup brown sugar + 1 tablespoon cinnamon)
Instructions
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • Spray the donut pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, combine the , all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, combine the remaining ingredients through apple. Once you have the apple grated, add it to the batter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Either spoon the batter into the pan.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown on the bottom.
  • Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before removing them from the pan
  • Brush with the melted butter and dip into the cinnamon sugar.
