100 years ago in Whitman County

The Whitman County Gazette features short articles that they ran 50, 100 or 125 years ago.  We thought it would be fun to share one with you...they don't make grain sacks any longer at the State Prison in Walla Walla!

100 Years Ago - December 3, 1909

Two men were arrested near St. John last Sunday by Deputy Sheriffs Cole and Roberts and now linger in jail.  They are in jail for horse stealing and pure cussedness in general.  Although each claims to be only 19 years of age they have started at a rapid pace and will probably add to their experience by learning how to make grain sacks at Walla Walla before the matter ends.

Makes you wonder what trouble they'd been in before?  The Free Dictionary defines "cussed" as: preverse, stubborn.  Cussedness, definitely not a word you hear everyday!
